With years of manufacturing and industrial design experience, the founders established Koncept in 2002 to design and develop innovative products for home and business. The company has since developed a line of elegant LED lamps and lighting elements with the discriminating consumer in mind. Not only have consumers embraced Koncept's lighting for home and office, the designs have gained national and international attention.
From 2005 through 2008, Koncept's flagship product, the Z-Bar LED desk lamp has won critical acclaim in publications such as U.S. News & World Report, Samsung's DigitAll Magazine. It has also won a number of prestigious awards from International Design Magazine and Time Magazine and was selected as a permanent display in Germany's Die Neue Sammlung museum as a best innovation of the 20th/21st centuries.
Encouraged by the popularity of and need for high quality LED lighting, Koncept introduced the Equo family in 2009 as its second desk/floor lamp product series. This finely sculpted design has earned awards from SPARK, Chicago Athenaeum's Good Design, Next Generation Luminaires (NGL) Award (sponsored by the U.S. Dept of Energy), and ASID's BLOOM award for energy efficiency, Red Dot award, iF award, and more. Over the years, Koncept has garnered a number of internationally renowned awards such as the Good Design, Red Dot, and iF awards, to name a few.
Fast forward to today, Koncept has expanded its product line to cover a full spectrum of product categories including portable lanterns, wall sconces, modular architectural lighting, and more.
Even the tremendous success of these exceptional lighting designs has not slowed the Koncept team of innovators. That's because ideas never rest at Koncept. Our goal remains as it started: Design innovative products that set high standards in the industry and more importantly, make your life safer, simpler and greener.
Calling Peter Ng a minimalist is stating the obvious. A designer with over 30 years of experience, Ng has mastered the art of merging functionality and style.
A native of Hong Kong, Ng studied in Texas in the early 1970s. He returned to Hong Kong in late 1970s, but emerging advances in technology and the aesthetics of his U.S. environment stayed with him. He threw himself into designing, spending every waking hour at his design table in these pre-computer and pre-software days. Peter spent the next 30 years as an industrial designer for various firms and companies throughout Asia, designing a number of products and processes. By the year 2000, Ng was responsible for over a hundred product designs and earned the reputation as a premier designer. His greatest success, however, was yet to come.
In 2002, with Peter's help, his sons Kenneth and Edmund established Koncept Technologies to promote designs under its own brand. For Peter, it was the realization of a long-time dream, and the design team trio was born.
It was the perfect fit. Growing up and watching their father at his design table, both Kenneth and Edmund developed a love of design and product development. Both are engineers by training – Kenneth at USC and Edmund at Stanford.
The Ng Team purchased a factory in Asia and based the company's headquarters in Southern California. After designing several successful electrical products, the Ng Team began to research the rapidly emerging field of LED technology. In 2003, Peter began working on a new lamp idea: to use tiny, long-lasting LEDs for standard lighting. Without the need for a large incandescent bulb, the design could be sleek and minimal. In 2004, Peter created the first generation of the Z-Bar LED Desk Lamp. The response was immediate and impactful. When the second generation Z-Bar was introduced, Time Magazine named the Z-Bar LED Desk Lamp one of the Best Inventions of 2007. In Europe, Z-Bar was selected as a permanent display in Germany's Die Neue Sammlung museum as one of the best innovations of the 20th/21st centuries. Design awards continued to pour in from all over the world.
Since this first minimalist design, Peter and his sons have moved forward with their lighting design ideas. Following the Z-Bar, the Ng Team introduced various desk lamps, floor lamps, wall sconces and pendants to commercial success and industry accolades. The lamp designs have been embraced by consumers and sought after by the commercial furniture industry for office integration, not only for their sleek profiles, but also for the tremendous energy savings through the use of LEDs. To date, the Ng Team's LED lighting designs have won over 50 international design awards.
If less is more, minimalism must be success. The Ng Team, especially Peter, has known that for years.
